Announcing the Inaugural Front Office Academy

Dropback celebrates the first Front Office Academy cohort—38 Division I programs trained to build analytics infrastructure, acquire the right data, and connect insights to roster decisions with confidence.

For immediate release — May 4, 2026

The future of on-the-field success is being defined off it.

That is the thesis behind the Front Office Academy. And after three incredible weeks of education sessions, fireside chats, and homework with dozens of FBS and FCS programs across college sports, the inaugural cohort is officially in the books.

"Dropback's Front Office Academy was great experience that provided a platform to advance our analytical processes allowing us to make clearer decisions"

— G5 Director of Scouting

"The Front Office Academy was a highly impactful experience that enhanced how I approach player evaluation through analytics. The program's emphasis on predictive modeling provided an actionable framework for turning data into decisions"

— SEC Personnel Staffer

As graduation certificates begin to roll out, we are taking a look back at the success of the inaugural Academy.

Academy: Why Dropback built it

Contrary to popular belief: the teams that win in the new era will not be the ones with the richest donors and the most money. They are the ones with the discipline and systems to make the right calls, when it matters, with confidence. And that discipline does not come from gut. It comes from data — and more specifically, from knowing how to identify, build, and operationalize the analytics that matter for your program.

The problem? Most college personnel leaders have never been formally taught how to properly use analytics. And the staffs we talk to are doing an (incredible) job trying to teach themselves: ChatGPT, Coursera, and coffee. Mad respect!

We wanted to do something boldly different in the collegiate sportstech space. While others keep this complexity under wraps, keep the models proprietary, and sell the "insights" back to programs at a premium... Dropback wanted to do the opposite.

The Front Office Academy was built to empower the next generation of college front office leaders to fully understand the work — to own their data, own their models, and own the roster decisions those models inform.

Academy: The curriculum

Parker Fleming, VP of Football Strategy at Dropback, speaking on camera in a studio setup with microphone and laptop; on-screen caption reads: to talk about what makes a good metric.

The curriculum — led by Dropback's VP of Football Strategy, Parker Fleming — was structured around one question: what does it actually take to run a data-driven front office in college sports?

Across multiple education sessions, fireside chats, and hands-on homework projects, the cohort worked through:

  • Building an analytical infrastructure — what a real data foundation looks like in practice, and how to stand one up without an army of data scientists
  • Acquiring the right data — separating signal from noise across scouting, performance, financial, and market data
  • Interacting with data the right way — the principles top pro front offices use to translate raw inputs into defensible roster decisions
  • Connecting data to action — closing the gap between "we like this guy" and the structured, data-backed case that defends the call

This goes beyond generic professional development. These are the new core operating principles separating the programs quietly stacking recruiting wins from the ones still scrambling.

Academy: By the numbers

Front Office Academy Spring 2026 cohort infographic: 38 FBS and FCS programs; all 4 P4 conferences, 13 G5 schools, and 9 FCS programs; titles include General Manager, Asst. GM, Director of Player Personnel, Director of Scouting, and related front-office roles.
  • 38 programs across Division I, from General Managers to Asst. DPPs
  • Every Power conference represented — plus 13 G5 and 9 FCS programs
  • ~10 hours of live instruction, firesides, and async homework projects

"The Front Office Academy started so many important conversations about analytics and personnel. I was genuinely impressed by every staffer's desire to understand how analytics could become a useful tool in their toolbox. It was a privilege to come alongside them and challenge their evaluation process with an analytical lens."

Parker Fleming, PhD, VP Football Strategy at Dropback and Architect of the Front Office Academy

It is abundantly clear: elite front offices across every level are ready to take data-driven roster acquisition strategy into their own hands.

Academy: What's next

We were blown away and grateful by the response.

We are thrilled that 30+ programs now have the framework and the operating playbook to deploy data-driven strategies in their front offices.

"Dropback's job is to give the most forward-thinking front offices in college sports the tools to win. But tools without the right operating principles behind them aren't worth much. The Front Office Academy was our way of investing directly in that layer: the people. We're honored to have provided this platform, and even more excited about what this group is going to build with these newfound skills."

Luke Bogus, Founder and CEO, Dropback
